New Delhi: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday presented Railway Budget next fiscal year with the promise of a new business model to encourage private investment along with the social commitment, but without privatization.
“Our goal is for all-round growth,” said Lok Sabha, adding that the primary consideration in the responsibility this year’s budget is social rather than commercial viability of projects.
“We have set our goals in the Vision 2020 document and we will achieve it,” the minister said, referring to a document uncovered in December, which aimed at making the more than 30,000 kilometers of roads to the lines of dual or multiple against 18,000 km today.
“It’s the fact that the administrative and procedural delays discourage potential investors. We will need to overcome this, and I to form a special task force for this mission,” she said.
“The structure will be created for a new model to work,” she said. “But we will not have privatization of railways. Railway will remain with the Indian government.”
