More flood devastation in Sindh as pressure mounts on Kotri barrage
River Indus is flowing in exceptionally high flood level with rising trend at Kotri barrage. Due to mounting pressure of water on Koti Barrage the protective embankment is intensifying. Panic gripped people as authorities ordered immediate evacuation in Thatta city after floodwaters broke through levees.
According to Irrigation sources the upstream water at Kotri barrage is 964,000 cusecs while the downstream is 939,000 cusecs.
Inlet water at Sukkur is 653,000 cusecs while the outlet is 616,000 cusecs.
In Guddu barrage the reported inflow of water is 606,187 cusecs while outflow is 595,775 cusecs.
Floodwaters are beginning to recede across the country, but because of high tides in the Arabian Sea and the possibility of more rain, the risk of flooding remains in Sindh.
Earlier, the swollen Indus River broke through the Surjani embankment on Thursday morning, threatening the towns of Sujawal, Daro and Mirpurbathoro. The 100-feet wide breach has severely affected all four talukas of Sujawal sub-division. The district administration has issued a warning to residents of Mirpurbathoro, Jati, Dharo, Liaqpur and surrounding villages to move to safer places.
