The row between the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) administration and the Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association (PALPA) has surfaced once again, causing a lot of inconvenience to passengers who suffer due to repeated flight delays. Defence Ministry taking notice of the issue has issued a notification declaring the service of pilots as compulsory.
According to MD PIA Ijaz Haroon, pilots would be bound to present on duty as per schedule and violation would be considered as a crime. Pilots would be fined Rs 10 lac or jailed for one year in case of any violation. On the other hand, PALPA President Captain Suhail Baloch said that he will not compromise the safety of passengers.
The PIA administration and the PALPA office-bearers had reached an agreement to resolve all outstanding issues only weeks ago in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Defence. However, the accord proved short-lived, as both sides started leveling charges against the other a few days ago.
