Brion Carnes, the quarterback prospect from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla., shocked most everyone on Wednesday morning when he signed with the Huskers.
“He came in this morning and felt like Nebraska is the place where we wanted to be,” said Chris Conboy, Carnes’ position coach at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla. “His goals were to play for a BCS championship and to win a Heisman Trophy. Carnes, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, threw for more than 6,000 yards in his career at Manatee. He was 39-12 in four years as a starter and led the school to a berth in the state-title game last fall. A longtime commitment to South Florida, he wavered when coach Jim Leavitt was fired last month.
Carnes then visited Nebraska and Western Kentucky, committing to WKU last weekend on his visit to Bowling Green, Ky. For the past three days, he’s looked like a Hilltopper.
