Tsunami Watch : The east coast of Australia has developed in the wake of the tsunami watch major earthquake 8.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Chile where at least six people were killed.

Joint Center for Australian Tsunami Warning (JATWC) issued a tsunami warning at 7:45 pm (GMT) on Saturday to declare “tsunami threat” to the New South Wales and Queensland and Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island.

Tsunami waves have been observed on the coast of Chile, which could threaten Australia,” Bureau of Meteorology (Baum), said in a statement on Saturday.

Baum said the tsunami could start affecting Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands after 8:30 am (GMT) on Sunday.

Can be beaten New South Wales after 8:45 (GMT) on Sunday, while it could be up to the state of Queensland after 8:15 am (GMT)

The duty forecaster Jake Phillips Baum says the New South Wales north coast to Broken Bay and up to Queensland on the southern coast of the island of long double PKK near the city of Brisbane may experience strong waves.

“But at this stage we want to emphasize that there is no worry about flooding the land,” said Phillips told The Associated Press.

“But there is a threat to the marine and would include any person or fishermen boats rock.”

The quake occurred off the coast of Chile at 3:34 am local time (1734 GMT) on Saturday, shaking buildings in the capital, where some buildings collapsed.

The epicenter was at a depth of 100 km to the north to north-west of the town of Chillan Chile, 115 km northeast of Concepcion, Chile’s second largest city, where more than 200,000 people living along the river Bio Bio.

He was also 97km from the town of Chillan ski, the gateway to ski resorts Andean destroyed in an earthquake in 1939.

Phone lines were down in the country, which makes it difficult to ascertain the damage, especially in the south towards the center of the quake.

The quake was felt in Argentina as well.

United States tsunami warning center in the Pacific Ocean has also issued a tsunami warning for Chile and Peru, and the tsunami in place to Ecuador, Colombia, Antarctica, Panama and Costa Rica.

Japan Meteorological Agency also warned of the risk of tsunami across wide areas of the Pacific and the United States and geologists said the risk of extending as far as the South Pole.

“There is a possibility that the tsunami will occur on a large scale in the Pacific,” an official told Japanese.
