Prayer for Ash Wednesday:

O Lord, have mercy, which God before everything else,
Take away from me my sins,
Praise be to God and set fire to me
The fire of thy Holy Spirit.
Take away from me the heart of stone,
And give me a heart of flesh,
From the heart to love and adore thee,
The heart of a great joy to thee,
To follow and enjoy Thee, for Christ's sake, Amen
St. Ambrose of Milan (AD 339-397)

Penitential prayer of St. Augustine:

O Lord,
A spiritual home, is narrow;
Vision that might be it.
It's devastating, you fix it!
It does not appeal to your sight.
I admit it, I know.
But you must clean it,
Who should be crying, but for you?
Cleanse me from secret sins, O Lord,
And spare thy servant from strange sins.
Saint Augustine (354-430 AD)
