Lee Seung-hoon Wins Skating Gold with New Olympic Record

Korean speed skating Lee Seung-hoon won the gold medal in the men’s 10,000 m speed skating oval in Richmond in Vancouver with a new Olympic record on Wednesday.

22-year-old clocked 12:58:55 skater in the event the longest distance, breaking the previous record set by Olympic Jochem Uytdehaage the Netherlands in 2002 the Games of Salt Lake City, in 12:58.92.

Lee, who previously won a silver medal in the 5,000-meter race in 2 days of the Olympics, skated in five out of eight groups on Thursday, and ended more than a lap ahead of team mate Arjen van de adapted from the Netherlands who finished in 13: 33.37.

Dutch favorite Sven Kramer, who had won the gold medal in the 5,000-meter race, and it seemed at the outset that won the gold medal again this time with a new Olympic record of 12:54:50, but was disqualified for crossing the aisle.
