CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK (AFP) – The driver says he was wrong hit piece of concrete that fell from a bridge over the Thruway outside Buffalo and smashed his car through the windshield of the car.
John Cook says he was driving on Highway 90 Cheektowaga suburbs on Wednesday when a chunk of concrete through the windshield on the passenger side crashed. Cook says that the incident occurred while he was driving under the Cleveland engine over the bridge spanning the Thruway just east of Buffalo.
Cook says he was covered in broken glass but was not hurt.
State Thruway Authority says teams to remove loose concrete from the bridge later in the day, and will do more work when the weather improves. The agency said loose concrete was removed also from the period last fall.
The bridge is scheduled for replacement in 2012.
