
Facebook (News - Alert) recently the level of the stalker-friendly with its new application "places upped." Published by the social media giant on August 18, "Places" allows users to send their location to their friends with location-based tracking technology.
Users can customize their sites, which then will give them the opportunity to be approached by local companies and offers suggestions. "Check in" from your smartphone, you can post your whereabouts and reports of other friends to get to where they are. The location "item" will appear as a regular status update.
Just in case your site was the last thing your friends do not know about you through Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare (News - Alert) or other popular social media site, they do now. Of course, users can block "places" of viewing and tracking their locations, but if you "checked" all 892 of your friends know where you are. Michael Sharon, product manager for "Places", remarked, "This is not about broadcasting your location in the world, it's about sharing with your friends where you are."
This location-based tracking service can ultimately lead to local advertisements tailored to your Facebook page, but the company has released no news of any plans to do such advertising to continue.
This new application brings Facebook's technology with that of Twitter, which recently a location application. Users are able to "Twitter Location 'to be added to any tweet that the location of the tweet and Twitterer releases.
Facebook's "Places" brings it up to speed on the location-based services that many social media sites, including Foursquare, Gowalla, andLoopt (News - Alert) already offer.
