Onam greetings


Surjit Singh Barnala Governor of Tamil Nadu and political leaders greeted Malaya Read on the eve of Onam festival on Sunday.

In a release here, Mr. Barnala his cordial greetings and good wishes conveyed to Malaya Read live in the country and elsewhere.

"Let this harvest festival of colors bring unity, peace and prosperity and pave the way for the development of the nation," he said.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said his government considers the feelings of all sections of society and therefore had announced in 2006 a special celebration for districts Nagercoil, Nilgiris and Coimbatore, which have significant Malayalee population.

"This was extended to Chennai in 2007. It's a proof of our commitment to the righteous feelings of other countries residing in Tamil Nadu respect," he said.

The festival symbolizes the desire to do away with arrogance and imbibe the qualities of love, peace and brotherhood, he said while extending his greetings Onam.

AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa said Onam festival was celebrated by people in different walks of life, transcending differences of caste or creed.

"I wish the day brings prosperity, love and happiness in the lives of people celebrating the festival," she said in a statement here.
