No one should politicize the flood disaster: PM

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that National Oversight Disaster Management Council (NODMC) would ensure the transparent utilization of funds to be received as foreign aids and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
PM Gilani was talking to media representatives in a meeting held at Prime Minister’s House where he said that provinces were not agreed to the centralization of funds so the proposal of Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif regarding a commission was not applicable.
He said it was suggested that two impartial personalities having good fame from each province would be inducted in the NODMC, while some names would be presented by the federal government to form the NODMC. Prime Minister Gilani thanked several countries for their help in relief work and said the world had full confidence in the PPP-led government.
Mentioning four important phases of relief work, he said rescue work was in process in flood-hit areas which was the first and most important, while the second important thing was provision of tents, mats, food and shelter from epidemics to the affectees.
In third phase the government would work for the rehabilitation of the affected people, he said and added that Rs 20,000 would be provided to each family before Eid for which provinces would share 50 percent.
He said it was time to unite the nation and the matters should not be politicized.
He assured the nation that the government would utilize all its resources to rehabilitate the flood affected people.
He condemned the murder of two brothers by the mob in the presence of police in Sialkot and expressed his grief and sorrow over the incident.
It is pertinent to mention that both PM Gilani and Nawaz Sharif met on August 14 and agreed to form an independent committee to tackle the flood disaster.
