Fashion and you
I have tried before, this dressing for men and Silicon Valley, and is generally just does not work.
But here comes Kristin Slowe with spoiler, a line of clothing for the geek who comes under the banner of irony: "You are a man. Dress like one."
Slowe does not care that we in the Valley Technical T-shirts and jeans, and Birkenstocks Flip Flops, shaggy short and ball caps. Regardless of the place we men make a fashion statement, a statement that almost goes: We do not care about fashion. Do not lick. Or that we have fashion options are often options that a heap of clothes we were wearing yesterday.
Slowe, you see, is inspired by - first and foremost by her husband, geek. Chris Slowe is a complete package: PhD in Physics, Harvard University, co-founder of a friend startup, big fan of promotional T-shirts. He manages the button down shirt with jeans when he was gone and Christine in history for the first time about four years ago.
"In all history after this, he had some T-shirt that he picked up some lines T-shirt and jeans, he says,« Christine, 31. "Shocked by it."
In his defense, and also, Chris Slowe, has no defense. But do you have any idea about the number of lines t-shirts there are out there? "Free T-shirts are almost currency in the world startup," says Kris (31 years), which allows a company in San Francisco users to send links to their favorite web content, links and criticism of others.
Failure, which Christine Todd really be explained, because after all, they do not have to live with men. It also provided tours of the events and Silicon Valley technology was taken by the fashion absolute cluelessness of the population of the region of men.
"There had to be something better, when these men to go and pitch," she says, as is the case in the plan of action ", or even go on a date." Up to now? I was joking, right? (OK, that is.)
But there is something, dress dirty is part of the charm of the valley, and part of the legendary merit: It's not what you wear, this is what you invention. This is a place that inspired "The Naked and the shift in late," a nonfiction book of 1999, included a paragraph on the programmer who worked, and also, without wearing a stitch.
Now Christine Slowe, who has an interest in fashion and a degree in product development, and wants to cover the free spirits with sports jackets and shirts with French cuffs luxury.
"The goal of this whole thing is really just to get the players to think about what they're wearing." He was always this ragged jeans and T-Shirts reputation, "says: from the Valley," and that is a better coat on it. "
Not to mention the most beautiful shirt.
Now, it is Slowe line with a modest (that were not a modest price) of five jackets and shirts six. (There is still no pants, they should be reading from naked.) Her San Francisco sells on the Internet, with partner Justin Kan (27 years), friend and founder of Live Streaming Video Justin.tv, which helps out with details on the Internet.
Slowe is not out of touch with the valley. Her signature piece is the sport coat 800 dollars, and Blazer invincible. "It's essentially a material Gore-tex," she says. "It's waterproof, breathable, stain resistant. We will not wrinkle." If you spot it, "of beads right off. You just take a napkin on it."
Meaning, of course, you can code every night in it, wearing the hijab while nap under your desk, cleaning the pizza that you drooled upon by the judiciary upon with the wet. Perfect.
However, I fear, doomed Slowe. We have established a look and valley dirt. Some say it started decades ago, when HP staff will wear grubbies to work on Fridays, so they can download the products help trucks. Others say it is an extension of the college environment that many companies incubator. (For staff working in universities, foosball] play and create a future while sitting in bean bag chairs).
Does not mean Silicon Valley does not have any sense of style. There turtlenecks Steve Jobs' hoodies and Mark Zuckerberg in the.
"The hoodie and turtleneck, and those are the things that can be said to make it significantly," said Slowe diplomatically. Jobs and Zuckerberg had reached the place in life (rich) where they do not need to care about what they wear. "But for the rest of the players," Slowe said: "When you're trying to get there, you have to put forward your best foot."
Preferably in the foot in a pair of Prada loafers.
