Read Across America 2010

Read Across America 2010

Read Across America 2010 : Today we celebrate the 13th annual Read Across America today, and to honor the memory of Theodor Geisel – or “d. Mites.” No one has to encourage children to discover the joy of reading more of Dr. Seuss’ books. In fact, one in every four children receive a Dr. Seuss, in their book first.

Families today are busy, rushing from work to school sporting events, with little time to breathe in between. It is easy, in these times in which we find ourselves in, time to forget the importance of the family. I encourage you to pause for a moment to read with your children for 30 minutes today and every day. It’s hard to imagine how powerful the simple act of reading can be many lessons children can learn from books. Reading is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your children and the continued growth of their minds. I spend time reading with my grandchildren is priceless. I hope you will join me today, regardless of your age, to pick up and read a good book with others in all parts of America.
