Obama Israel : Benjamin Netanyahu, his first as prime minister, Israel collapsed in 1999 in part because it was linked to the relationship are not satisfied with President Bill Clinton. Then it is understood that Mr. Netanyahu in the current government was, until last week, working hard to stay close to President Barack Obama.
This strategy can be perfectly reasonable if Mr. Obama was simply another president in a long line since Franklin Roosevelt, who strongly affirmed the U.S. national interests and defend our friends (especially trapped ones), and maintained strong alliances. But Mr. Obama is different. It is a world beyond the first U.S. president. It looks beyond American exceptionalism, and believes that our role on the world stage should be just one among many of the nation. Mr. Netanyahu’s strategy and therefore out of date and flawed.
Israel has tried to accommodate Mr. Obama on two important issues: negotiations with the Palestinians and Iran have nuclear weapons. These efforts have succeeded to a large extent bilateral differences out of sight. But now, conflicts suppressed fully and clearly and can be either a solution or cause a serious collision betweenIsrael and the United States
On the Palestinian front, Mr. Netanyahu government overlooked 14 months of diplomatic efforts, weak administration that did not change the facts of geographical and political relations betweenIsrael and the Palestinians.
Last week, the announcement of the construction of new settlements in East Jerusalem, while the Vice President Joe Biden was visitingIsrael was a step is not necessary. Optics, but is not the real problem. Response from Mr. Biden ( “I condemn this decision”), approved in advance by Mr. Obama, and then confirmed U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Friday in an operation by a phone call from Mr. Netanyahu, the first of what awaits us in the future. It will not be pretty.
Mr. Netanyahu’s efforts to avoid open conflicts with Washington had not won in the White House approval. Mr. Obama almost certain to believe that the real obstacle to peace is not new housing or the timing is unfortunate, but the so-called Israeli intransigence.
On Iran, Mr. Netanyahu had faithfully supported Obama’s diplomacy, in hopes of building credibility with the Palestinian president in the face of the day whenIsrael might have to hit Iran’s weapons program as a precaution. Jerusalem, for example, currently supports the efforts of the United States to tighten sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program, is doomed to failure even though it is. With the passage of time,Israel ’s military option is growing more difficult, and reduce the chances of success, such as Iran is seeking a new air defense systems, and be crucified and buried more nuclear facilities.
Mr. Netanyahu has been a mistake to assume that Mr. Obama agrees that the foundation we must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. But the White House believes that there may be a nuclear Iran, though undesirable, can be contained, and therefore do not support the use of military force to thwart Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
What is more, Mr. Obama is also unwilling to allow any other person, namely Israel, and work instead. This means that if Israel bombs Iran’s nuclear facilities, the president is likely to withhold renewal of critical resources, Israeli warplanes destroyed and other weapons systems.
We are moving in the direction is irreversible, and may have now reached, a crisis of Israel with Mr. Obama. We must realize that the U.S. allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons is to enable an existential threat to Israel, and Arab governments in the region that are friendly to the United States, and long-term peace and security.
Mr. Netanyahu, we must recognize that he did not bank credit for good behavior with Mr. Obama, but simply postpone the inevitable confrontation. Prime Minister must reassess its approach, and soon.Israel on Palestinian issues out of respect will not help with Mr. Obama after a pre-emptive strike against Iran over its nuclear program. It would be wrong to believe that a further delay in such a strike would not change many of the toxic response of politicalIsrael can expect from the White House. Israel’s support will come from Congress and the American people, as opinion polls show, and not the President of the Republic.
Mr. Obama is not only oblivious to the position of America’s global mainstream. He is also embarrassed by it is not enough to regret that underestimated. In fact, we give priority to not only spruce Alana America, but to defend our interests and the interests of our allies, such as thinking. Waiver of America’s role in world affairs, not an act of humility, but to become a dangerous signal of weakness to friends and adversaries alike.Israel may be the first ally to feel pain.
