March Madness
March Madness : It’s that time: the area of selection, the slide is set, and utter March Madness is about to begin. For lovers of heavy college basketball, and will be during the next few weeks means hours in front of the TV and cut off some personal relationships.
So what should you see during this year’s championship? Here, teams and players, and events to keep an eye on.
Difficulties, and Favorites: Kansas
[Jayhawks] is the tournament number one seed, and they get the best odds to win the 2 / 1 (Kentucky only close on 3 / 1; otherwise might move a little bit from now until the start ofthe tournament).
Kansas is on the experienced players that bring depth to the negotiating table. They got more than its share of top notch performers with Sherron Collins, a point guard who can log muscles his way to the basket; Cole Aldrich, and another in the state of Kansas’ line of centers, a superhuman with a giant color pie, a descent, dating back to Greg Ostertag; a monster machine and physical recovery in the forward Marcus Morris – When Morris takes a break, his identical twin Markief is waiting on the bench, and one of the two new staff in the best of the nation in Xavier Henry. Kansas gets solid play from guard Brady Morningstar. These men, he won the national championship in 2008, but I will try to remember how to do it again. As goes this area, but Kansas seems to be a cut above.
Cinderellas and sleepers
Cinderellas do not get predicted – they just happen. If the audience did not expect this, it is just not going to be the same thing. Therefore, with the importance of this warning in mind, here are the teams that may have some space to make the running to become this year’s Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Cornell: The Ivy League send a team every year, and rarely do they make a big splash. But this year could be different if Cornell makes a run. Big Red came within a few baskets made taking down Kansas City this season, in the state of Kansas, and statistically they are the first three-point shooting team inthe tournament : Cornell made more threes than any other team in the field of 65 – -304 of them in this season, for an average of 9.8 per game. Cornell faces tough first round opponent in the temple, and the best team in the heart of the Conference and the Atlantic Ocean 10 gritty defensive team, but to look at Cornell as a selection of upset attractive.
Houston: Does 2010 mark the return of Phi Slamma raise? Well, maybe not, but Houston is making its first NCAA tournament appearance] since 1992, and the Cougars would make the winner to feel good if they can pull off a win against Maryland, the ACC regular season champion of the subscriber. Houston is coming off win over OOTB take the United States address the Conference, while Maryland got bounced fromthe tournament by the ACC Georgia Institute of Technology.
Siena: Another possible first round of Siena and rolled through the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, and now faces a test against the cold Bordeaux team that struggled after losing star Robbie Hummel the end of the season with a knee injury. Purdue got blown out in the Big Ten champion Minnesota – a team that did not make the field of 65 – a margin of 69-42. With the momentum of this kind, could have some room Siena to move forward.
West Virginia: Bob Huggins!
It’s been a while since Bob Huggins, the team was selected to go deep into the NCAA tournament]. A man who has a nose for the recruitment of athletes, and led Cincinnati to 14 NCAA championships twice in a row, the compilation of teams in the 1990s, developed on the circle, dunkfests snarling opponents unable to Conference USA, and Huggins, decorated in blues friendly, perched on the sidelines of approbation. But the arrests of players, and rules [NCAA violations, arrests and DUI in the end to the closure of his work there, and now, after one year stint at Kansas State, Huggins has been back at his university since taking over at West Virginia in 2007. It is in the Big East now, banging with the big teams in the country, and he is back in the ranks of the national elite.
Syracuse area
While nearly every other college basketball team in the country runs a man to man defense as a rule, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim runs the 2-3. Almost exclusively.
This is not traditional, to say the least, but it can be incredibly effective given the right mix of players who are running. The last time Syracuse had the team’s strength and national, as happened in 2003 [NCAA championship with Carmelo Anthony and Hakim Warrick provide some of the positions of alert along the military wing of the group 2-3. Area Syracuse confused otherwise violations of the impressive, and watching Boeheim system to work is like watching a swarm of Piranhas guards descended on the helpless and confused because it works the ball around the arc of no avail in an attempt to find the angles and the space that, magically, without the ‘t exist . One season of strategic value out of the window.
As ESPN, Jay Bilas points out in the magazine in its latest issue (subscription required), and the region, effectively forces the other teams prepare for their crimes Boeheim defense, flipping the usual scenario of defenses to prepare for any player attack comes in their way. Some people complain about the simplicity and hivemind esque departure from the individualism brave man D, but Bilas refer to it just a good strategy. Basketball is about winning games.
When you run to perfection, and it’s something to behold.
Favorites Sabermetric: Duke, Beye
Statistical modeling has become the mainstream in the game of baseball, because the term “sabermetrics” (named after the Society of American Baseball Research, or the patience) has come to signify the Basic Law of the quirky or any combination of baseball statistics analysts can come up with.
Basketball, but has not been ruled out, and the Basic Law of modeling basketball guru Ken Pomeroy has placed Duke Blue Devils, as the nation’s top team in the degrees of authority. 7 – Seeds Brigham Young, at the same time, come in for a surprise 7th in the overall standings Pomeroy.
Pomeroy takes into account the difference of them had been beaten, and how they’ve beaten them to provide a model of how a team is likely to win the match at this time. Explains:
The purpose of this system is to show the strength the team will be if they played tonight, independent of the injuries or emotional factors. Because no one can see each team play all (or even more) of their games, and this system is designed to provide you a snapshot of the team at the current level of play.
It puts more of the value of the conventional wisdom on the Atlantic Coast Conference this year, and the selection of Duke University may obscure the fact that the Blue Devils, while the team of the elite, and the lack of true point guard – usually hurts in the championship run. (Full disclosure: I’m impressed with Duke. Yes, I know everyone hates Duke, because Duke is good, and for other reasons. No, this section is not biased.)
Squad
Star Student: There are a lot of explosive players to watch in this tournament, but here’s a suggestion: Kentucky John Wall. It’s one last and do, and NBA-bound student point guard to be brought into the ranks of Harvard’s John Calipari, follows in the footsteps of Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and Calipari recruited guards nail. Wall is the real deal, and thus sports, and the nose of the basket of Britain backcourt; in its first year of college ball, and he was one of the best players in the country. It is almost certain that he will turn pro after his first year and play for John Calipari, NBA Preparatory Institute, also known as the University of Kentucky, formerly known as the University of Memphis.
The best names: There’s nothing like a fan to become a player because his name is cool. This year’s meeting place on the court talent and attractive labels come in the form of guard Darrell West Virginia, “Truck” Bryant and Baylor guard spoon Carter.
And feel good hustle player: Duke’s Brian Zoubek has a cult following among Duke fans. And 7′1 “senior from New Jersey, Zoubek was great for him the whole body Duke career – but it is not specific to a coordinated one, and until this season, and I did not see Zoubek dunk once in his university – which raised doubts about how it can be possible for a seven-footer. Zoubek, but appeared in this season, sporting a new beard, and, with it, after some power in the late season, Zoubek started to do something not a fan Duke expected: the seizure of all games, this transformation to a large extent. side by side with the touch of a newly discovered attack and shot consistent believer, Zoubek have mastered the art of a semi-hidden screens illegal and called for the failure to obtain them. slightly rushed and a half in the hip, and suddenly he was on the road … and John Scheyer open door transit.
Zoubek in an escalating game was the ice to Duke University, and if it plays well in this tournament, not only will Duke fans nuts, it will make the Blue Devils a force to be used as evidence. (More full disclosure: I am still impressed with Duke. Do I have included Zoubek if I did not? Maybe not. This does not mean that it is not surprising: I decide to nominate Brian Zoubek as most important player of the 2010 [NCAA Men’s basketball tournament.)
Bonus: you have Vitali
Dick Vitale gets more excited about college basketball more than any human being on Earth over the age of 7 is generally able to get anything. Watching, and listening to, Vitaly can be inspiring and confusing. If Vitali is still his voice when the tournament was over, and they were not very good tournament.
