Phylacteries

Phylacteries

Tefillin, or phylacteries, are two small black leather boxes worn on the left arm and forehead by observant adult male Jews. Today, the tefillin, or phylacteries has caused panic inside the US Airways Louisville, Ky.,-bound flight. A 17-year-old Jewish boy wore it during the flight with his sister when passengers reportedly mistook the teffilin for a bomb.

Although the teen explained the significance of the tefillin Jewish prayer box to the crew, the pilot opted to land the plane in Philadelphia anyway, Vanore said.

Now is this a sign of cultural ignorance?
