Latest Updates Thomson Correctional Facility : The United States has indicated that it plans move prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to Thomson Correctional Center, located in the small town of Thomson, Illinois. This new initiative by the White House came to light on Saturday. Thomson Correctional Center is located in close proximity to the Mississippi River in Iowa and is approximately 150 miles from Chicago.
Although it has been finalized as yet and administration is still considering its options. However, if the government decides to move Guantanamo Bay detainees in the maximum security prison with the local authority will have to buy the prison, and later renting part of the building to the Ministry of Defense, the number of Guantanamo prisoners may be there.On Monday, officials are scheduled to visit the command center for corrective their conditions so that the final decision may be taken first. At the same time, also stressed that the government that ultimately the decision should be made depending on how people react in a remote town for the relocation of prisoners.
However, the fact that the administration plans to move the arrested people welcomed Thomson, it is likely that the new company would create many jobs in small town and in turn would significantly contribute to improving the economic situation of the town. Thomson prison was built in 2001, but a large part of the prison is not in operation due to financial constraints.
