Chile Quake 2010 :Earthquake in Chile is causing ripple effects in Oregon, with tsunami advisory – less dangerous than the warning – which was in force on the coast of Oregon, Washington and California. And advisory are the cities of Astoria, Cannon Beach, Tillamook, Pacific City, Lincoln City, Newport, Yachats, Florence, North Cove, Raymond, Long Beach and Naselle.

No coastal flooding is expected to be produced by the wave, according to the National Weather Service. However, some coastal areas experience dangerous currents and large increases in the ports and bays. Residents of coastal areas are advised to stay out of the water, off shore, and away from ports and marinas since the high waves and currents that are difficult to predict.

Forecasters say the air of a wave height of one foot and four feet high may occur.

The threat is expected to begin around 1 o’clock .. This afternoon along the coast of central Oregon. A rise in sea level could continue for several hours. A higher altitude may not occur until an hour or 90 minutes after the start of the primary, saysthe National Weather Service. Boaters in the waters deeper than 600 feet should not be affected.

Newport officials, who are hosting a festival of seafood at the end of this week, said the festival will continue as planned. Seaside officials say they do not plan for tsunami warning sirens sound.

Tsunami generated by an earthquake in Chile, which registered 8.8 on the Richter scale. It hit the coast of Chile on Saturday morning. At least 122 were killed.
